First : Academic Contribution

  • He taught in the Department of Architectural Engineering, Cairo University, without interruption since his graduation in 1949 till higher studies mission in 1952.

  • Since his return in 1957 till today, he delivers lectures on theories and history of architecture for the four undergraduate years. He supervised architectural design studio.

  • His sixty years of teaching, he formed schools in the theories and history of architecture with the aid of his assistants and students and through his books that are taught in many colleges and institutes of Egypt, Arab and foreign countries. He also supervised hundreds of theses and contributed in Arbitration Commissions.

  • He  participated in national  permanent scientific committees and Promotion Committee of the professors and assistant professors at the level of the Republic.

  • He acted as chairman of the Council of Department of Architecture, years 1988 and 1989.

Prof.. ALY RAAFAT has adapted the task of highlighting the richness of Egyptian Recreational & Eco-tourism, dividing Egypt vertically to three regions.

  • Studies aimed at the future of tourism in Egypt

  • Integration of traditional tourism with leisure tourism

  • For the first time in tourism history the link between the main touristic regions in Egypt thus linking tourism programs between the three regions.

3-Structural Books:

The examination committee recommended publishing the PHD thesis, which was done in New York, Reinhold Company 1957,with the title of (Reinforced Concrete in Architecture): Due to the importance of this book the Russian Academy of Sciences translated it to Russian in 1963.  The applicant updated the book “Reinforced Concrete in Architecture” in Arabic published by Dar El Maaref House by the recommendation from the International Franklin Institute in 1975.

Introduction:

This sector forms a large part of professional activity in Egypt and Arab countries. The candidate had done the research work as well as  the application and several additions: 

First: Disrupting open spaces with low partitions separating the staff member to combine between ease of communication and privacy.

Second: Provision of public services for multi-purpose rooms, cafeterias for each floor, meeting rooms, computer rooms, Internet facilities and Mechanisal  stores.

Third: Cover the  inner skylight ceiling at the level of the internal first floor ceiling  with a  substantial chromatic and interstitial thus for the possibility of using space for multiple purposes MULTI-PURPOSE for the cultural and entertainment events (parties) and Memorials , ..etc.

Forth: Applying these principles to the office complex of Oil company Belayim – Nasr City, Dar El Tahrir Ramses Street, in the later he brought the main printing house and the commercial one and offices for ten press releases.

The applicant performed a great efforts in establishing in 1960 the first Center for Social and Criminological Research in Egypt in the city of Awkaf under the chairmanship of  Dr / Ahmed Al Khalifa, combined for the first time between the interior courtyards and internal  spaces for Social and Criminological Studies in Egypt, through the laboratories, museums and places of researches and the Library and Multi-Purpose Hall.

2- Arab League

Studies of the expansion of the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo required a visit to the headquarters of international organization in Europe and particularly in Belgium, Paris and Geneva. A report presented and approved by the league for the expansion of Headquarters and modifies the programs.

3- The United Nations

The candidate designed and supervised the implementation of the Demographic Building of the United Nations in Mokattam. He also participated in the supervision of the Building Centre of Environment and Development for Arab Region and Europe “Cedare” in Hijaz Street, Heliopolis, the building combined Arabian architecture and contemporary architecture in a binary distribution between the ancient and the modern.
